An Entrepreneur Everyone needs to know: Ar-Rasheed S. Brisco Jr.

June 14 08:26 2021

This is the story of how entrepreneur, Ar-Rasheed S. Brisco Jr, came to own a successful credit consultant company. With his life’s story starting with homelessness, Ar-Rasheed had no idea where his future would lead him or even if one would exist. Today, he is in the position where his family has a real chance to live the “American Dream” because of his hard work and determination.

In a recent interview, Ar-Rasheed sat down and gave the audience a glimpse behind his newfound success and his company New Life Credit Consultants.

Q. Tell us a little about yourself.

AR: Hello, my name is Ar-Rasheed, I grew up wanting the same things as most people. I wanted to be comfortable, be able to have choices and ultimately escape the reality that I was facing at the time. We didn’t come from much, in fact, we came from literally nothing. My story of success wouldn’t be possible without the moves and sacrifices that my mother made for her children that still resonate with us today. Those moments of being hungry and having to deal with not having much at all taught me many lessons that I apply today with my company. Having felt just how awful the absolute bottom feels, I’ve made it my life’s mission to get to the top. Through many life experiences based on both great and not so great choices, I found my way to entrepreneurship. This company is not my first attempt at “controlling my own destiny” either. Whoever it was that said “the best teacher is experience” was definitely on to something.

Q. What has been a defining moment in your life?

AR: If I had to choose some defining moments though, it would have to have been the moment in 2016 when I decided to use a credit card to pay for a summer course of an ex-girlfriend who was starting her master’s program. At that time, I wasn’t aware of what I actually was doing. I wasn’t aware of how powerful of a tool I had with one card being able to pay for a college course and most importantly, how that decision would later on impact me. Picture it, being young with little to no responsibility and an energy that just attracts people to you. I felt like I was on top of the world and that the decision I was making which helped her, was one that I considered an investment at the time. When time continued on and I realized how that decision affected me, my goodness it was the spark I needed to start this company. That same summer actually ended up being one that was filled with many ups and downs that tested my integrity, character and made me question my life’s purpose.

Q. What was a tough lesson you learnt so far?

AR: People will never care about your passion the way you do, period. No matter how long you’ve known someone, be it a friend or family member, you cannot expect them to care about your passions and aspirations the same way you do. I remember when my first book was published, it felt weird to share with some people because naturally I expected a certain level of support that just wasn’t there. Do I feel any differently about those folks because of this? Absolutely not. This was just one of the many examples that showed me this concept.

Q. What motivated you to start your own business?

AR: Having run the corporate “rat race” for years, I began to grow tired of being told what to do by people who often were in positions of authority based on tenure and nepotism. I’m a problem solver, or at least I THOUGHT I was until I saw that the biggest problem I couldn’t solve was I wasn’t happy. I hated having to work in environments where the money I was making was the trade-off for being told what to do all day long and metaphorically getting beat down by the negativity and broken dreams in office spaces. Plus, the skill I developed with credit was one that TRULY was helping people and change the lives of those who I came into contact with. Ownership and control are two concepts that I hope to help more people from my socioeconomic background become familiar with. It starts with me leading as an example.

Q. Tell us more about your company

AR: My company helps clients address their credit reports with negative history by leveraging the consumer laws and compliance rules. My company is one that is built with the people in mind and at the forefront. We’ll be looking to grow this year to new levels as our client results continue to come in with consistency and efficiency. I can’t thank everyone that worked with us enough for the support, the fulfillment gained personally when we help someone change their life based on having a “second wind” with their credit is truly second to none. We currently have clients from over 20 different states and have been in business over 3 years. As we continue to grow, we continue to help impact many lives, which is the part that makes this all worth it.

Q. What advice would you give someone pursuing this line of work?

AR: Anyone looking to pursue this dream of entrepreneurship should definitely be prepared to put their money where their dreams are. Take these steps with caution and calculated risk though. There’s an internet culture that’s telling people to go out and just drop it all to pursue their dreams, which just isn’t realistic. It took years for me to learn the information necessary and implement it to be able to see if what I knew was right. I was taking dollars from my jobs and funneling them into my company, it was not an overnight process by any stretch of imagination. I do not recommend that people go into anything, no matter how great they feel that are, without first taking the steps to ensure that the risk they’re taking is worthwhile. As long as people do that, they can’t go wrong!
